What the app stores on your device

Your breakdowns
Each task you type, its steps, which steps are done, any step timer length, when it was created and finished, and whether the steps came from AI, the built-in splitter or you.
Usage counter
How many free AI breakdowns you've used this month, so the free allowance can reset monthly.
App settings
Whether you finished setup.

Your breakdowns are saved in a file inside the app, with an automatic backup copy of the previous version so a crash can't lose your lists. If a file ever can't be read, the app sets it aside inside the app instead of deleting it. These files are protected by your device's built-in data protection and, like other app data, are included in your own iCloud or computer backups according to your backup settings. We cannot access them.

What we collect

Nothing. Stepsmith has no account and no sign-in, and it has no server of ours to send data to. We don't collect, receive, store, share or sell your personal data.

The app doesn't contact any server of ours. It uses Apple's StoreKit for purchases. If you tap a link such as Terms of Use, Privacy Policy or Manage subscription, iOS opens that Apple or Velkmoor page; the app doesn't add any of your data to the link.

If you have turned on Share With App Developers in your device's Settings (Privacy & Security › Analytics & Improvements), Apple may share anonymous crash reports and app-usage statistics with us. That is controlled by you and by Apple, and you can turn it off at any time.

Purchases

Subscriptions are sold and billed by Apple through the App Store, under Apple's terms and privacy policy. We never see your name, email address or payment details. On your device, the app asks Apple's StoreKit only whether you have an active subscription, so it can unlock Plus.

How the AI works

When you ask Stepsmith to break down a task, the text you typed is processed on your iPhone or iPad by Apple's on-device Foundation Models (Apple Intelligence). Stepsmith does not send your text to us or to any server. If Apple Intelligence isn't available or is turned off, the app says so and uses its built-in splitter, which also runs entirely on your device. Apple Intelligence itself is provided by Apple under Apple's privacy policy.

Notifications

Stepsmith does not send notifications. The optional step timer (Plus) runs only while the app is open.

Export and import

Settings › Your data › Export all (JSON) saves all your breakdowns to a file in a place you choose, for free. The file is not encrypted and is under your control; deleting the app does not delete it. Import merges a file into your lists and never deletes what you already have.

Keeping and deleting your data

Children

Stepsmith is a general planning tool and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13.

Your choices and rights

Because we don't hold any of your data, there is nothing for us to access, correct, export, delete or sell. You stay in control of everything on your device, as described above. If you have a privacy question or request anyway, email us and we'll answer.

Not a medical product

Stepsmith is a planning tool. It is not a medical device and does not diagnose or treat any condition.

Changes to this policy

If the way the app handles data changes, we will update this page and the effective date at the top before the new version of the app is released. If a change means data would leave your device, we will tell you in the app before it happens.
